Fishing
The location of the lodge is on the Nuyakuk River in Alaska and is a great home river for the rare non fly-out days and for after hours fishing. Royal Coachman's fishing guides specialize in fly fishing, are some of the best guides in the industry and have an average of 10 years of experience of guiding in Alaska. With two exclusive permits in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, one private trophy trout fishery permit on the Copper River, multiple permits to fish Katmai National Park and Wood-Tikchik State Park, three department of natural resources permits, 2 Dehavilland Beavers and nearly 20 boats cached throughout the best fishing locations in their part of Alaska, RCL offers an unsurpassed Alaskan fly fishing experience. The primary goal is to have great fly fishing in Alaska on uncrowded waters. The fishing grounds encompass a gigantic range from the lodge on the Nuyakuk River, stretching west all the way to the headwaters of the Kanektok located within the Togiak Wildlife Refuge, south to the lower Nushagak in close proximity to the ocean, north to the upper Nushagak and King Salmon tributaries and east to the fabled trophy waters of Iliamna. You will find what you are looking for at Royal Coachman no matter what – they simply do it all!
Royal Coachman provides anglers with lots of opportunities for multiple species of huge fish. The Bristol Bay Region has the largest salmon runs in the world! Nowhere else on earth will you find such a wide variety of sport fish. The sheer numbers of fish that the area supports is mind boggling. The fisheries around Royal Coachman contain all five species of Pacific Salmon: Kings, Silvers, Sockeye, Chum, and Pinks, along with seven species of freshwater game fish, Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Char, Arctic Grayling, Northern Pike, Lake Trout, and Sheefish.
Fishing Policy
Royal Coachman Lodge practices a strict catch and release policy for their freshwater species of fish. You may, however, ship home five salmon from your trip. RCL will prepare, package, and freeze your catch for the trip home.
Accommodations

The lodge sits on the banks of the Nuyakuk River overlooking the home pool and caters to a maximum of 12 anglers per week with a staff of 10-12 people. This small number of guests and large staff helps to ensure that you will have the maximum amount of personal service and attention that this truly world class fishing adventure offers.
The main lodge houses the kitchen, dining room and lounge, library corner, one guest room with a private bath, and massage room. Comfortable and cozy, this is where you will plan the following days excursions. You and your guides will sit around the fire, decide what type of fishing you would like to do and plan the details of the following day’s adventure. There is no pre-scheduled fishing program here. Custom tailoring each day’s fishing is one of the major advantages to the small and personal approach to the overall program at Royal Coachman.
Guest quarters consist of four finely furnished guest cottages, one and two bedrooms with private baths. Each cabin or room has modern bath facilities, independent heat, excellent beds, and all the creature comforts of home along with spectacular views of the river.
The remark RCL hears most often from their guests is this is our trip of a lifetime. RCL understands this sentiment. Their staff is dedicated to adding all the small personal touches that help make your stay with them truly that trip of your lifetime. Whether its a few extra hours fishing in the evening, or traveling a few miles out of the way to show you a herd of caribou, or having the chef prepare your catch of the day just the way you like it, RCL is there to make every effort and provide every service that will make your fishing adventure memorable.
Once you experience the Royal Coachman Lodge you’ll want to return year after year, and become part of their Alaskan fishing family. In fact, a very large number of their guests have been returning for many years and are content in the knowledge that they have found a very special place to fish, relax, and enjoy the last great frontier!
