Grosvenor Lodge
Grosvenor Lodge Katmai Land AlaskaAre you ready for an Alaskan adventure that provides incredible fishing for rainbow trout, lake trout, grayling, pike, and salmon?  Location, location, location, Grosvenor's has it. The numbers of fish are truly incredible. It's an ambush area for carnivorous fish chasing sockeye smolt.......very exciting.
  • When it's on, the Narrows provides a virtual feeding frenzy.
  • Easy fly outs to two sister lodges.
  • Visual small creek fishing to very large fish.
  • Incredible, centralized location.
The Fishing

Grosvenor Lodge Alaska Fly FishingGrosvenor Lodge's location can't be beat.  The lodge sits between Grosvenor and Coville Lakes on a waterway most commonly called the Narrows.  Spawning sockeye salmon relish this area. Tens of thousands of sockeye salmon travel through the Grosvenor area to spawn each summer fueling the entire ecosystem. Eggs that are left behind, hatch and grow up into smolt. The young smolt have to make their migration to the ocean. The only way out is through the Narrows. When this migration occurs,  the trout boil begins. This is about the closest thing to a feeding frenzy as one can experience in freshwater fishing. All the hungry trout will wait for this smolt migration and when it does, they explode on the bait fish for weeks. The fishing can be off the charts with high numbers caught as well as being extremely visual.

The fun doesn't stop there.  The American River, which is a permitted world class stream, is just a quick boat ride across the Grosvenor Lake. By having this permitted water at it's disposal, Grosvenor's guests can access the American anytime during the day or evening.  You'll have the water to yourself.  The American is located across the lake so you will take a larger, more comfortable boat over to the outlet of the river and then transfer to a smaller jet boat to access the river itself. The river can boast incredible numbers of char and rainbow trout along with a bear population that will keep you very entertained. The River itself is very fun to fish as it is easy to wade and has different characteristics including many channels and braids, deep cliff pools and long runs.

The streams that dump into the lakes are home to spawning sockeyes. You will have the trout and char following the salmon. You can expect to walk up these streams and do a lot of sight fishing. These streams are on the smaller side and run gin clear so it is very easy to pick out the fish you want to cast to. Sometimes there are so many in certain pools you are not sure which one is going to take your fly.  Rest assured, one will and you'll get to see all of it happen.

Grosvenor's fishing program revolves mainly around the local fisheries,  on the Narrows, and numerous creeks that flow into the adjacent lakes around the Lodge. By having the Narrows, lower American Creek, and other smaller streams nearby, you don't really need to fly out to other rivers as there is plenty of prime fishing right by the lodge.  If you want to see more country, however, daily fly outs are available and are easy to arrange. Floatplanes from Kulik will pick you up early in the morning, take you fishing, and drop you back at Grosvenor when done.

Since the number of anglers is so small, you can really decide what you want to do on a daily basis. There are no strict guidelines to the fishing which allows a lot of room to customize your day. There is plenty of variety and seclusion at Grosvenor. Expect an incredible trip with plenty of fishing options right at your fingertips.
