Alaska Rainbow Point Lodge
Millions of sockeye salmon run through Lake Iliamna fueling a stellar environment for healthy populations of rainbow trout, dolly varden, and arctic grayling. These andronamous fish lie behind the salmon as they migrate upstream and eat the eggs as the salmon lay them in their spawning beds.
Fishing takes priority here and the daily program is not based upon any kind of regimented schedule and is flexible according to your expectations. If you enjoy fishing early, late, or both, AKRPL is your place because of the lodge's excellent proximity to multiple choices of fishing locations. Since there are so many good fishing opportunities close to the lodge, it is easy to get around and spend the majority of your time fishing.
The small number of anglers at the lodge on a weekly basis helps facilitate this situation as there are simply not that many anglers that the lodge has to look after. This personable experience really makes AKRPL a solid choice in all of SW Alaska and the Iliamna drainages.
The Fishing

Due to the location of the lodge you will be fishing word class rainbow trout streams during any weather condition. This guarantees not just a fishing day, but an exceptional fishing day.
Rainbow Trout is probably the most sought after species when visiting AKRPL but there are plenty of Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling and several salmon species. The Rainbow fishing can be incredible for both numbers and size so when the timing is correct you can spend your days continually bending your rod on 18 – 24 inch fish with the occasional, daily hog that will approach 28 inches. As the season goes into late September and early October the true trophies of the Iliamna drainage are found and these fish are no joke as they are extremely heavy in weight and will tape out at 30 or better inches long.
There are many incredible fly out rivers that will satisfy your trout and salmon fix along with providing scenic flights and views of the Iliamna/Katmai area. Although it is difficult to leave the home waters of AKRPL it is a must to at least have a few days in the air to experience this incredible area. You will see plenty of wildlife, vistas and have the opportunity to fish to any species that you choose.

VISITOR RATINGS
Beautiful room, superb food, Ken is very talented! Scott our guide is very courteous, professional & truly shows his passion for fishing. Good luck Mark & Brad, you've got a great thing going, keep up the good work! --
Mike Carter, San Ramon, CA
Great lodge "First Cabin" Scotty our guide was great. One of the most relaxing experiences I've had. Pampered is the word that best describes the staff's mission. Ken caused me to gain 25 pounds, according to Mark's scale. Is this the fish scale? (Slightly out of adjustment, I hope). I will miss Scotty yelling and jumping in the air at the sighting of a "bow". --
John Kerley, Piedmont, CA
Greeted by Brad, the owner/chef/floatplane pilot you immediately realize you're in for a great trip. Everything from 3 incredible hearty meals a day, including hot meals on the river, to floating the Copper and the Gibralter rivers, to taking a little extra fly-by the fresh water seals, Rainbow Point Lodge is a first class operation. This is the most special fishery I've experienced with the best crew of guides I've ever met. We had 40-60 fish days with 18-25" Rainbows leaping 6 feet in the air - where else can you do that? We'll be back. --
